Mommy, there is a leak in playroom!

Image
Three years ago we started having a few drip occasionally in our playroom from the upstairs bathroom. Recently it got worse and we called in the plumber. Once it was discovered that it was not a plumbing issue, it turned into a tiling problem.  The tiling people said that it would need a drywaller, and then a tiler. Which would cost about $2000+. This is how much water collected after 2 showers in the main bathroom. This is how much water collected after 2 showers in the main bathroom.   So we did it ourselves...$120 and one pissed off Mommy/Wife. Colin demoed 75% and Painted 75% After demoing we found the wall had deteriorated  so I made a wall with expanding foam. I installed a water barrier. Then came the tiles. Then the grout but found that Colin had not demoed enough, so demoed and replaced the grout on the third wall. The molding looked terrible. It was chipped and peeling so we had to sand, prime and paint. Then we sealed it.  I

How I learned to love reading.

I have never been a good reader. I have tried for years to read especially after I had children to be a good example. I wanted to raise kids who loved to rea   It did get easier once ereading was invented but I was still really slow. I felt dumb. I think because I was so slow and I had a hard time processing the written word that I was attracted to simpler books written for teenagers. I also like a sweet love story. This is where I developed my love of stories of Utopian society or more accurately the failure of Utopian society, lol and my favorite love stories involving vampires and other magical characters. A year ago I lost the ability to read due to depression and CFS. I still wanted to read so my friend suggested audiobooks. I started finding a selection of unabridged audio books on the website of my public library using the OneClick, Overdrive apps and when the library didn't have something I wanted to read I went to Audible. Now I have a book going all the time and

For the woman that inspired the artist in me.

My counselor recently moved to Kelowna. She has been amazing and taught me so much. On my last meeting I realized I had never done a painting for her. I got up that morning and had this done by 1pm when I had my last appointment.  I am so sorry to see her go. Thank you Patti.

Its a Rat, Chester and Finn, Invasion.

I really want a dog but my husband doesn't want one and we have 2 cats, Charlie and Tucker. When I was working at the SPCA I  really fell in love with rats. I found Chester first and he had lost his companion  not too long ago but he had a respiratory infection so we fostered him for a week and since we had to return to fill out the paperwork they let us borrow a cage. During that week the kids and I built him a new cage.  Madison and I got a cabinet off of Craigslist for $50.  The boys and I designed and built it with supplies we bought at Home depot for about $100.  Chester moved in...  He was lonely so we got Finn. Tucker wanted to move in. He is still kind of mopey and never wants to leave his castle. And after all that I still want a dog.

Silver Lake Camping

Image
In September 2016, we visited Silver Lake in Whatcom County. I wanted to take a look at the Glen for an alternative to camping. This was the view from the creek in the Glen. Mady and I took a few minutes of peaceful time. When we can afford it, I'm in. The Silver Lakes campground does not have cell service but it is beautiful, wooded and the lake is lovely. You can rent boats and there is power and water sites.   Wyatt was a champ learning to fish. The lake was beautiful. The Owl in the tree was a treat. Last night we had the rainbow fire. Add caption

Mommy and Me days vs Daddy and Me days.

Image
Each year my husband takes each of the kids on a Daddy and me day. This year it was Wyatt to a Canadians game, Jack to the Planetarium and Mady and he hiked the Chief. On those days I 'helped' Wyatt make a Newton's cradle, juggling balls and a beer bottle cap mobile. On Jack's craft day we made survival bracelets. All while Mady crafted things to decorate her room to go with her new bedding. That's how I do Mommy and me days. Enrich the children while feeding my addiction, I mean interests, 😋.

Two weeks on the road with no creativity, in 5 days I went on overload. I made a dreamcatcher mobile, crocheted a dish cloth, survival bracelet and made a sweater clip. I also "helped" Wyatt make a newtons cradle, 3 juggling balls, 6 ft of his corking blanket and a beer bottle cap mobile. Assisted Jack and Mady with their crafts. Busy week.

Our Road Trip 2016

Image
This summer we decided to take the whole family on a 2 week roadtrip from our home to West Edmonton Mall and back. We left here and headed to Osoyoos, BC for 2 nights I think we spent the 2 days in the worst weather that Osoyoos had all summer. Super windy and rainy. The hotel was subpar and the beach was lovely.     On our way to Revelstoke, BC we stopped in Enderby, BC and we found this amazing place called Log Cabin 1912. One of the best parts for the whole trip.    Revelstoke was amazingly beautiful. We stayed at Base Camp and it was nice and homey. The family was sad to leave. On our day we went geocaching and to the Revelstoke Dam and Visitor's Centre. Colin and Jack really enjoyed it. We left Revelstoke for a very long day to Drumheller, AB through Banff National Park, AB.  Too commercial for me. We arrived in Drumheller, AB. So many mosquitoes!    We went to the Royal Tyrell Museum. Jack and Colin were in heaven.
