Charging Station Creation

Image
Let us get rid of all those wires   We have so much technology around these days that there is a charger in every room, in every outlet and the kids still fight over chargers. I want all their technology in one place and everyone to have their own charger and own spot to charge. This is what I came up with.

My daughter is turning 12...

Image
So my daughter is turning 12 this weekend and yet again I am slaving away preparing a party for 13 preteen friends, 2 brothers and one birthday girl. And the theme of the year...emojis. More accurate 'poop' emoji. That one wasn't that difficult but Mady's favorite is the blushing emoji. I must say not an easy task when making a cake without fondant. I mixed Raspberry jello with yellow icing to make a peachy color for the blushing and gel for the eyes and mouth. All while getting over the flu.  I AM A SUPERHERO!

Mommy, there is a leak in playroom!

Image
Three years ago we started having a few drip occasionally in our playroom from the upstairs bathroom. Recently it got worse and we called in the plumber. Once it was discovered that it was not a plumbing issue, it turned into a tiling problem.  The tiling people said that it would need a drywaller, and then a tiler. Which would cost about $2000+. This is how much water collected after 2 showers in the main bathroom. This is how much water collected after 2 showers in the main bathroom.   So we did it ourselves...$120 and one pissed off Mommy/Wife. Colin demoed 75% and Painted 75% After demoing we found the wall had deteriorated  so I made a wall with expanding foam. I installed a water barrier. Then came the tiles. Then the grout but found that Colin had not demoed enough, so demoed and replaced the grout on the third wall. The molding looked terrible. It was chipped and peeling so we had to sand, prime and paint. Then ...

Halloween 2016

Its a Rat, Chester and Finn, Invasion.

Image
I really want a dog but my husband doesn't want one and we have 2 cats, Charlie and Tucker. When I was working at the SPCA I  really fell in love with rats. I found Chester first and he had lost his companion  not too long ago but he had a respiratory infection so we fostered him for a week and since we had to return to fill out the paperwork they let us borrow a cage. During that week the kids and I built him a new cage.  Madison and I got a cabinet off of Craigslist for $50.  The boys and I designed and built it with supplies we bought at Home depot for about $100.  Chester moved in...  He was lonely so we got Finn. Tucker wanted to move in. He is still kind of mopey and never wants to leave his castle. And after all that I still want a dog.

Silver Lake Camping

Image
In September 2016, we visited Silver Lake in Whatcom County. I wanted to take a look at the Glen for an alternative to camping. This was the view from the creek in the Glen. Mady and I took a few minutes of peaceful time. When we can afford it, I'm in. The Silver Lakes campground does not have cell service but it is beautiful, wooded and the lake is lovely. You can rent boats and there is power and water sites.   Wyatt was a champ learning to fish. The lake was beautiful. The Owl in the tree was a treat. Last night we had the rainbow fire. Add caption

Happy bonding time.

Mady and Wyatt are so much alike sometimes that they have had a difficult time bonding through their jealousy of each's relationship with Jack. Jack was gone today so we went swimming. They played wonderfully and had a great time together. Pics are kind of blurry, sorry.

Raspberry Pi - Too Cool

Image
Yesterday I got a Raspberry Pi 3, the case and an SD card. I also paid for a power cord but it won't be in for 2 weeks. All in $104 at Lee's Electronics on Fraser street. They were very helpful. For those who don't know, it is a credit card sized computer! Too cool! Its original design was to teach kids coding and DOS commands but really you can do most things that a regular laptop can do on a Linux based platform.  RP3 even has on board wifi and Bluetooth. It is hooked up to my television via HDMI. You can also take it physical. Make robots, lie detectors, light shows and a thousand other applications. I put it in the case, downloaded Noons onto my SD card and installed in on my Raspberry Pi 3, plugged in my USB keyboard and mouse and away I went. I am working on getting the Bluetooth to work consistantly for sound. A bit frustrating but I am sure I will figure it out with all the help and resources you can find online for this little gem. I poked aro...
